Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) workshop specifically designed for midwifery led, community based, birth teams.Ā

Neonatal resuscitation is a critical skill for every member of the birth team - to not only be credentialed in - but to be truly skilled at.Ā That's what our families are counting on us for!Ā

Ā Ā Ā Utilizing the Spiral Method of Teaching, each step in the algorithm is reinforced with repetitive practice ~ scenario based ~ hands-on learning. This allows learners to truly develop muscle memory while connecting - not only each step in the process but the foundational knowledge that drives it allĀ - so that you understand why you are doing what you are doing.

✵✵✵

Together, let's learn to recognize and support more challenging neonatal transitions with compassionate, deliberate & effective resuscitation.

Ā

My approach to teaching, at it's core, is to help you understand the 'why' behind your actions and gain competence and confidence in your skills. That way, if you ever encounter an atypical situation, you can trust your knowledge & understanding of the physiology you are aiming to support āž™ to inform your actions and approach to restoring homeostasis. This is the difference between beginner and expert and while we can't get there in a day, we can participate in the template of learning that will help us move toward mastery quickly. That way, we can rely on our skills to manage the situation at hand while also focusing on the bigger picture.

šŸŒ€šŸŒ€šŸŒ€Ā

It is not enough to take NRP every 2 years, you've got to be confident & skilled!

~ That takes repetition and practice ~

Come learn with me and not only walk away with your 2 year NRP card in hand, but confident in your skills and with a template to guide your monthly practice for skill maintenance.

Interested in Hosting a workshop in your community? I love to travel!

Equipment & Setup

Set up is a key factor in providing smooth and effective resuscitation on land or in water. Learn your equipment inside and out & set up strategies designed to guide your resuscitation.Ā

Positive Pressure Ventilation

It's all about the breath!! Because this is the single most important step in the process, we will focus on delivering effective breaths in a variety of positions & weave MR SOPA into your memory.

Neo-Tee / CPAP

Learn how to use the T-piece resuscitator and options for set-up in the community setting. Explore how and when to integrate CPAP into neonatal support & stabilization strategies.

Alternative Airway

Alternative airways are a critical step in the NRP algorithm and need not be intimidating :) Learn when and how to place a Laryngeal Mask Airway (LMA) in the community setting.Ā

Chest Compressions

When steps to provide effective ventilations are taken early, chest compressions are rarely required. We will practice 2 methods to perform chest compressions.

Oxygen Administration

There is often confusion as to when to provide O2 supplementation in the community setting. Get clear on how and when to use O2 & pulse oximeters and how long different tanks last!

Umbilical Vein Catheterization

This rarely utilized, yet critical emergency skill, is broken down using the 3-Step Method. Medication and fluid replacement protocols reviewed with a reminder card for birth bag.

Stabilization & Smooth Transport

Practice SBAR communication and strategies for a smooth & safe transfer of neonatal care to an EMS team without interrupting or compromising resuscitation efforts.

Weaving it all Together with Realistic Scenarios & Debriefing

Carefully planned scenarios, with audible FHT's and visible breaths to guide your interventions that increase in complexity as you build skills & confidence throughout the workshop. Have the opportunity play different roles on a 2-3 person team that simulated community birth.Ā
